Cullinan Park Conservancy Announces 2018 Photo Contest Winners

Cullinan Park Conservancy (CPC) announced its 2018 Photo Contest winners at the Second Annual “Picnic For the Park” fundraising luncheon, presented by Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital, on October 19.

The contest, which ran from July 15 – September 21, had four categories – Flora, Landscape, Visitors and Wildlife. The contest also featured an age category with submissions accepted for those under age 21 separately to be judged together, and 21 and over, with 110 entries submitted in all. The contest was underwritten by Johnson Development, while community members from Fort Bend sat on the judging committee. All photos were taken at Cullinan Park.

For the age category of 21 and over, the following entries won first place in their respective categories: Flora, “Lotus Blossom with Spider” by William Maroldo of Sugar Land, TX; Landscape, “Fishing Deck” by Ifran Ali of Sugar Land, TX; Visitors, “Serenity” by John Donaho of Missouri City, TX; and Wildlife, “Mid-day Reflections” by Rosemary Brooks of Houston, TX.

Anika Patel, a 15-year-old from Sugar Land, swept the under 21 categories with her first places for Flora, “Luminous Lotus,” Landscape, “Reflection,” and Wildlife, “Incandescence.” There were no entries for the Visitors category submitted from this age group.

The winners, in addition to the 2nd place winners, each received a ticket to the luncheon and a copy of their winning photo printed on canvas. Johnson Development also received a set of the winning photos to display at various locations on their properties.

Cullinan Park Conservancy hosted the photo contest to highlight the diversity of the natural scenery, including a variety of flora and fauna, at the 754-acre Joseph S. and Lucie H. Cullinan Park in Sugar Land. The Conservancy works to enhance the natural beauty of the Park for all by raising funds for capital improvements.
