Selection of 2018 SUBMISSIONS

Contest Timeline and Deadlines

The contest submission period for images and registration 

  • Begins at 12AM CDT on the morning of Sunday, July 1, 2019 and
  • Ends at 11:59PM CDT on Friday, September 20,

Winners will be announced at Cullinan Park Conservancy’s Picnic for the Park on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 11:30am to 1pm at River Pointe Church Auditorium, 5000 Ransom Road, Richmond, TX.


The Cullinan Park Conservancy Photo Contest is open to any professional or amateur photographer, of any age, who has electronically submitted a completed registration email and images, as described under the Rules section to Cullinan Park Conservancy during the dates listed above. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. The contest is open to all participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.

The categories are:

(1) Flora (Trees, Flowers, Plants)

(2) Landscape

(3) Wildlife

(4) Photographer’s Choice. Please note, any photos with people that are recognizable (photos of the back of someone fishing is not usually recognizable) must include name and phone number as a consent to release, including the guardian/parent of any minors.

To encourage young photographers’ entries, the above categories will apply to “Under 18 years of age” separately. For photographers under the age of 18, please send their age as well and they will be judged within their peers of younger age.

Contest Objectives

The contest seeks to expand public awareness of the Joseph S. and Lucie H. Cullinan Park.

How to Enter: Rules and Image Requirements

All photos must be taken of subjects within the boundaries of Cullinan Park. If you need a map of the boundaries, please let us know. The photos do not necessarily need to be taken during the timeframe of July 1 – September 20, as we understand spring and fall can offer other great photos that you may have taken previously.

Participants must submit each entry via email, one accompanying each image, to during the dates listed above.


Participants may submit a maximum of five (5) images in whichever categories they choose. Photographs must be submitted in digital format with a resolution large enough to support printing of a 16 x 20 inches image.

To ensure eligibility of your submission, entries must include a title of the photo, the first and last name of the photographer, the photographer’s email address, the photographer’s mailing address, and the photographer’s phone number, plus the image file attached. Each image must be of a resolution high enough to support printing 16 x 20 inches. If any of the above-mentioned information is not complete, the entry may be disqualified. Additionally, you must indicate which category you are entering when you email your submission.

Photographs submitted through other digital channels, or by hard-copy, will not be considered eligible for the contest.

Ideally, to guarantee the highest quality presentation, all entries should have a resolution of 6 million pixels or greater (6 megapixels). Images that do not meet this standard may still be judged but might not be honored in the competition (at the jurors’ sole discretion) if the photographer is unable or unavailable to provide the proper resolution when asked, as determined by the Cullinan Park Conservancy.

Resolution can be calculated by multiplying the pixel width of the image with the pixel height. For example, a photograph taken with a 6-megapixel camera set for the highest resolution and best quality produces images approximately 2832 pixels by 2128 pixels, which are acceptable under the rules (2832 x 2128 = 6 million).

Please remove any watermarks on photos. Photos with watermarks may be disqualified as entries are to remain anonymous for the judges.

Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically in .jpg form.

By entering this contest, the participant represents, acknowledges, and warrants the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the participant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy and publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest to the photograph. Any images submitted incorrectly may be subject to disqualification.

Cullinan Park Conservancy reserves the right to upload, store and share photos submitted through the contest process to its social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as its website at


All photos must be captured while abiding by all Cullinan Park rules always. The general safety and well-being of people in the park as well as conservation of wildlife and its habitat takes priority. Participant must minimize the disturbance of people, wildlife, and habitat. No photographs of tame or caged animals will be allowed. No animals may be trapped or restrained. No persons may be harmed.

Jury and Judging

Eligible submissions will be judged by a panel of no fewer than three independent jurors by a procedure of blind judging. The designated submission requirements assure that the photographer will be anonymous to the jurors. Therefore, it is important that all participants follow the submission instruction carefully. Decisions of the jurors are final.


Jurors are instructed to select the best photos based on photographic merit. When determining photographic merit, jurors will consider technical quality, composition, originality, and artistic merit. Cullinan Park Conservancy is looking for striking digital images of nature, highlighting the richness, beauty and diversity of life in Cullinan Park. Reminder - each image must be of a resolution high enough to support printing 16 x 20 inches.


Any entrants recognized in the contest may be featured online at and/or may be invited to an exhibit at a location of the choosing and discretion of Cullinan Park Conservancy. Time, date, and location subject to change. Check the website and Facebook page for updates. Contest winners will be notified by Friday, October 11, 2019 and invited to the Picnic for the Park Luncheon on Friday, October 18, 2019 where they will be recognized. Save the date!

Ownership and Use of Images

Cullinan Park Conservancy reserves the right to use entrants’ images for its purposes, including, but not limited to, production of educational and promotional materials, promotion of future contests, public relations, advertising, and photo exhibits.

The participant grants Cullinan Park Conservancy royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to photographs submitted to the contest:

• To use the photograph on the Internet in support of its mission.

• To use the photograph in Cullinan Park Conservancy’s communications.

To provide the photograph to other individuals and organizations for non-commercial use, Cullinan Park related use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, websites, etc.

• To use, relating to the Photo Contest, participant’s name, city, county, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.

• To keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that the photos can be used to support Cullinan Park Conservancy’s mission and be properly credited.

As consideration of the foregoing permissions, Cullinan Park Conservancy shall make its best attempt to credit photographs with the caption “© Person’s Name” when available.


Right to Cancel or Suspend Contest

If for any reason the contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause that corrupts or affects the administration, security, integrity, fairness, or proper conduct of this contest, Cullinan Park Conservancy reserves the right to disqualify any individuals who tampers with the entry process and/or cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the contest, in whole or in part. If Cullinan Park Conservancy elects to cancel or terminate the contest, the Conservancy will release its rights to the submitted photographs, and will not be held responsible for any foregone prizes, awards, or other recognition.

Limitation of Liability

Cullinan Park Conservancy assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission, for any communication line failure, for any theft or destruction to contest entries, or for any unauthorized access or alteration to contest entries. Cullinan Park Conservancy is not responsible for the failure of any entry to be received due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, due to human error of any kind, or any combination thereof.

Indemnification by Participants

By entering the contest, the participant releases and holds harmless the Cullinan Park Conservancy and its sponsors, affiliates, employees, directors, and officers from any and all liability of any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to persons, including death, or property damage, resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize, participating in this contest, or participating in any prize-related activity. Participant also agrees to defend, fully indemnify, and hold completely harmless Cullinan Park Conservancy and its sponsors, subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, directors, and officers from all claims by third parties without limitation.
